The Moon Had a Dark Line Across It

I was walking home when I noticed something strange about the moon.

There was a dark line across it.

Not a cloud. Not a shadow from the Earth. It looked like a thin black cut running almost perfectly from one side to the other.

I stopped on the sidewalk and stared at it.

A woman walking her dog stopped too and looked up. She said, “You see that, right?”

I said yes.

For about twenty seconds, the line stayed there. Then it slowly faded, like someone was erasing it.

I searched online when I got home. No eclipse. No known event. No news. Nothing.

The strangest part is that the woman with the dog seemed more upset than I was. Before she walked away, she said, “That happened once when I was a child.”

I asked what she meant, but she just shook her head and left.
