The Shadow Was Missing

I noticed it in a photo first.

My friends and I were standing outside at sunset. Everyone had long shadows behind them, except one person.

Me.

At first we thought it was the angle or lighting. But in three different photos, everyone had a shadow and I did not.

I laughed it off, but later that week I started noticing something strange in reflections.

In shop windows, my reflection sometimes looked delayed by half a second.

When I moved, it moved just after me.

This lasted for about two weeks, then stopped completely.

I have no explanation. Maybe stress. Maybe bad lighting. Maybe my mind was creating patterns.

But I still have those photos.

And in every single one, the ground behind me is empty.
