I was visiting my parents for the weekend and slept in my old room.
Around 1 a.m., I woke up thirsty and walked toward the kitchen. In the hallway, I saw my mother standing near the bathroom door.
She was wearing her blue robe and looking down at the floor.
I said, “Mom?”
She did not move.
I thought maybe she was half-asleep, so I stepped closer. As soon as I did, she turned and walked into the bathroom.
The light did not turn on.
I checked inside a few seconds later. The bathroom was empty.
I went to my parents’ bedroom, and my mother was asleep next to my father. She was not wearing the blue robe. The robe was hanging behind the bedroom door.
The next morning, I told her what happened.
She said when she was a teenager, her own mother once saw the same thing in that hallway.
Same blue robe. Same place.
