My dog used to sleep at the end of my bed every night.
One evening, he suddenly lifted his head and stared at the corner of my room. His ears went back, and he made a low sound I had never heard from him before.
I turned on the lamp. Nothing was there.
But he kept staring.
Then his eyes moved slowly, like he was watching someone walk from the corner toward the door. I saw nothing, but my dog followed whatever it was with his head.
When it reached the doorway, he relaxed completely and lay back down.
This happened three more times that month.
Always the same corner. Always the same slow movement toward the door.
The last time, I whispered, “Who is there?”
My dog immediately looked at me, then back at the corner, and started shaking.
I slept on the couch that night.
