My dog was the first one to react.
He started barking at the window around 2 a.m., which was unusual because he almost never barks at night. I looked outside and saw the backyard lit up with a pale blue light.
At first I thought it was lightning, but the sky was clear.
The light was coming from behind the trees at the edge of our property. It moved slowly downward, like something was landing behind them.
I opened the back door, and my dog immediately stopped barking. He just stood there, frozen.
Then the blue light went out.
The next morning, I walked to the tree line. The grass there was flattened in a wide circle, but there were no tire tracks, footprints, or broken branches.
I did not report it. I did not even tell most people.
I still do not let my dog sleep near that window.
